Can you imagine yourself being on some faraway planet, where the nights last four times as long as ours?

But it is okay — more than okay, really — for the spectacle in the skies of this faraway world is simply breathtaking.

You see, this planet lies in one of the most wondrous places in the galaxy.

A place where comets pass like little omens through the dark (dangerous, yes — but how did you get here, anyway? You can handle a little danger).

A place where great veils of gas glow in the distance — stellar nurseries — and you can feel it to your core how stars are grown there. Though what you see is ancient light, of course. By now, those stars may already have left their nursery and joined the thick rivers of stars, while their first glow is only now arriving here, spilling across the heavens.

This planet has four moons. They are petite and pretty. But you do not notice them that much. Instead — because this planet has a strong magnetic field — you see her: the aurora that dances all through the night, in pure gold and pearl, like strokes of living light moving softly over this magnificent alien landscape.

The nights here are not so bad.

Not really at all.

And they are still, oh so still — and so wonderfully peaceful.

Materials

Acrylic on birch plywood.

Painted with acrylics on a beautiful slab of birch plywood, where the natural grain of the wood has determined how the brushes should move.

Technique

The painting technique devised in order to create this piece is Rebecka’s own, developed over years of curious experimentation. The technique seeks to create a sense of movement, depth, and luminosity while allowing the character of the wood itself to remain an active part of the work.

Approximately 20 × 30 cm.
Frame included.

Frame

The frame has been hand constructed by Jakob at Lärjeå. Made from birch and treated with hardwax oil, it allows the character of the material to remain visible. A twisted brass hanging fixture provides a beautiful little detail that runs throughout the Genesis I collection.
